Sunday Worship Liturgy
September 6, 2020

Below is the worship liturgy for September 6. If you are unable to join us at 9:00AM for our live worship through Zoom, you are invited to walk through this liturgy individually or together with your family.

While we cannot meet together at our church building, we continue to live and act as the church through our collective worship of God. May this liturgy continue to bless you and encourage you in the worship of the Lord. The video of the worship service, which will span approximately 90 minutes in its entirety will be posted by 10:45am today.

You're always welcome to join us live, every Sunday at 9:00am.

Call to Worship
Psalm 29

Ascribe to the Lord Glory
1 Ascribe to the Lord, O heavenly beings,
ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
2 Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name;
worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness.

3 The voice of the Lord is over the waters;
the God of glory thunders,
the Lord, over many waters.
4 The voice of the Lord is powerful;
the voice of the Lord is full of majesty.

5 The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars;
the Lord breaks the cedars of Lebanon.
6 He makes Lebanon to skip like a calf,
and Sirion like a young wild ox.

7 The voice of the Lord flashes forth flames of fire.
8 The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness;
the Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.

9 The voice of the Lord makes the deer give birth
and strips the forests bare,
and in his temple all cry, “Glory!”

10 The Lord sits enthroned over the flood;
the Lord sits enthroned as king forever.
11 May the Lord give strength to his people!
May the Lord bless his people with peace!

Based on Matthew 13, 25:35,36,
Psalm 51:9, 17
Adapted from Fran Pratt’s Litany of Confession

We have sinned against you in thought, and word, and deed;
In things we have done,
But mostly in things we have left undone.
We have not loved you with our whole heart.
We have not loved our neighbour as we love ourselves.

Half the time, we haven’t even realized our neighbour was there.

You were thirsty and I didn’t give you a drink.
You were naked and I didn’t clothe you.

We have gone around blind,

We have blamed it on
Family responsibilities
Lack of time
Not my problem
My smallness
Fear of doing it wrong

If compassion is a seed, then I am the thorny soil.

Forgive us, Oh God,
According to your mercy.
According to your great compassion
Blot out all our iniquity.

We have nothing to offer you
Except a broken and contrite heart.
Remake our hearts out of love,
And let love be the heart of our lives.

Assurance of Pardon
1 John 1:8 – 2:2

8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.

1 My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. 2 He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.

Deuteronomy 6:4-7

4 “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6 And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.
